It is always disturbing when you know of a political candidate who has changed their political party candidacy in an election. Republicans no longer stand for what was once a conservative party. And Democrats think they can walk out on elected positions whenever they want. Many are using the “Independent tag” to get into a political race.
Keith Harden once Greenwood city councilman once wrote a paper on what a true republican represents. His list of attributes for a republican was pretty accurate, what prompted the penning of the paper was political virus.
Here is a copy Mr. Hardin’s Letter;
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Fellow Republicans,
Candidates are lining up behind the Republican banner looking for your support and financial backing. Some of these folks
are new faces and others have been around a while. Is your candidate a Conservative Republican?
Do
you know how your candidate voted in the last few primary elections? (Public Records of voter history available by calling Voter
Registration at 736-5000) If they voted Democrat, the answer to the question above is another question. Why are they running
for a Republican office? I would suggest that if they did not vote in the last few primary elections, they are not Republican. As you know, true Republicans always vote in the primary.
What about your candidates’ philosophy? If
they have been in office before, does your candidate continue to increase the size and spending of government? Is your candidate
close to the people they serve? Are they in office to serve or be served?
The Nashville, TN GOP has a wonderful
document of Republican Philosophies on their website. (http://www.nashvillegop.org/The%20Republican%20Philosophy.pdf) The Nashville
GOP puts it this way;
“Government is accountable for maintaining sound money and a responsible economy. Individual rights, liberties,
and properties are continually eroded when citizens are oppressed by excessive taxation, inflation, government waste and over regulation.”
“The most effective government is government close to the people.”
I am concerned that the Republican
Party is being watered down with those that can not get elected by showing their true colors. They hide behind the Conservative
Republican Banner, confusing voters, and making life long Republicans wonder if we’ve lost our values. Sure we recognize them
long after they are in office, and wasted our tax dollars. My challenge to you is to spot them early, and remove them in the
Republican Primary. Do your homework my friends. It’s a long four years to suffer with those that tax and spend.
I am a Conservative Republican and I can prove it. I demonstrate Conservative Republican Philosophies by the way I govern and the way I vote. As a Conservative Republican I have no problem saying Merry Christmas and God Bless America!
Merry Christmas
and God Bless America!
Keith R. Hardin
Greenwood, IN
Mr. Hardin had the will and intelligence to call out some so-called republicans. I also am similarly doing the same.
Last election just to name a few switch was Monica Magna who was a republican Greenwood city councilperson. She decided she was not going to run this past election and seek another term. Then she suddenly up and registered as an Independent!
Mayoral candidates for Franklin and Greenwood this past election switched sides. David Payne once ran as a Republican and switched to Independent the previous election, Fred Paris ran as a Republican and then as an independent – twice as an independent. Now Paris is claiming he is a republican, again.
Paris is seeking the county surveyor’s position this upcoming county election. He is challenge incumbent surveyor Doug lechner. The disturbing is that Paris has switched sides from Republican to Independent, to dependant and won Mayoral election, to independent and lost the mayoral election claiming voter political Republican Party dedication was the cause. Now he is again running for another election in county surveyor as a Republican!
To switch political parties like you do your underwear is similarly like crapping on the voters and saying you do not care what anyone thinks. It is apparent that you as a candidate have no intention (or knowledge) of what a political party means.
Stand for what is right and not select a political platform just to get into a race.
